Woman dies weeks after boat crash, another in critical condition

WEYMOUTH – A 70-year-old woman has died and another victim is still hospitalized in critical condition weeks after a dramatic boat collision in Hingham Bay.
Patricia Cicalese, of East Walpole, died on Sept. 7, Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey’s office said Tuesday. The other injured victim has not been identified.
Investigators say a 38-foot Sea Ray speedboat crashed into a 21-foot Pisces sailboat off Grape Island at 12:43 p.m. on Aug. 16. First responders from Hingham, Weymouth and Massachusetts Environmental Police rushed to respond to the crash.
SkyEye footage from that day shows the sailboat almost completely submerged.
Water taxi captain Ray Suarez saw the aftermath of the of the collision.
“We saw the mast just sticking out of the water. There was a lot of state police and salvage boats trying to figure out what to do with it,” Suarez previously told WBZ-TV. “Sailboats generally go very slow, and powerboats generally go very fast. So, somebody obviously wasn’t paying attention because they hit the boat so hard that they sank it, and that’s not a common occurrence.”
Lifelong boater Bill Norton could see the mast of the boat sticking up from his house.
“Sailboat has the right of way over a powerboat, every time,” he said.
The district attorney didn’t say anything Tuesday about who was operating the speedboat.
The incident is being investigated by State Police detectives in Morrissey’s office and the Environmental Police. Anyone with information is asked to call 781-830-4990.
